Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)

Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is a safe and legal end-of-life option that allows certain terminally ill Californians to receive doctor-prescribed medication to hasten their death.

Doctor Moore determines patient eligibility for MAID, provides referrals to consulting physicians, prescribes the aid-in-dying medication, and is often present when the patient takes the medication. Dr. Moore has extensive experience with MAID and a deep desire to help patients fulfill their end-of-life wishes.

It’s important to understand that choosing MAID is entirely voluntary. It is not about ending life prematurely but about giving control and choice to those experiencing a terminal illness. It involves stringent safeguards and is only accessible to patients who meet specific medical and legal criteria, including a prognosis of six months or less to live and the mental capacity to make informed medical decisions. MAID is a legal right to choose your end-of-life path granted by California’s End of Life Option Act (EOLOA).

MAID is just one of several end-of-life care options available. Others include hospice care, palliative care, and Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED). At Autonomy Health, we are committed to providing you with the information and knowledgeable support you need to understand and navigate these options.
